Margarine is a solid vegetable oil which is used as a substitute for butter in the kitchen and pastry. It is made from vegetable oils, such as sunflower oil, soy oil or palm oil, which are mixed with water, milk and other ingredients to give a solid texture and creamy. Margarine is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, which can be beneficial for cardiovascular health. However, it can also contain a high quantity of sodium and calories, it is therefore recommended to consume it in moderation and choose lightened sodium versions if you are at risk of cardiovascular disease.
