There are many varieties of cherries, some of which are preferred for their juicy and sweet flesh, while others are appreciated for their tangy flavor. Cherries are often used in jams, compotes and desserts, but they can also be consumed alone as a healthy snack. Cherries are an excellent source of vitamin C and dietary fiber, and they also contain small amounts of vitamins A and E, potassium and iron. They are also rich in antioxidants, especially in red and black varieties, which contain pigments called anthocyanins which have anti-inflammatory properties.
