Start by removing the zest from an orange in thin strips and squeezing its juice.
In a saucepan, combine the orange juice, zest strips, wine, sugar and cinnamon, then bring to a boil and simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, peel the pears, keeping the stems, and remove the cinnamon sticks and orange zest from the pan.
Place the pears upright in the pan and pour over the wine. Cover the pan and poach the pears over low heat for 10 minutes.
Remove the pears from the pan and arrange them on plates.
Reduce the remaining wine until you get a syrupy juice, then spread it over the pears.
Garnish the pears with orange and cinnamon strips and serve.
